The Queensland Roar juggernaut rolled on with the Brisbane side
defeating reigning champions Melbourne Victory 1-0 at home. It took just
10 minutes for the score to come on the board, when teenager Robbie
Kruse blasted a shot just wide of the despairing dive of Michael Theoklitos
into the net.
But from there, the Roar had to battle grimly to maintain their lead.
Captain Craig Moore departed injured after barely half an hour. And the
Victory continued to attack in the second half, with Archie Thompson and
Carlos Hernandez both hitting the woodwork but the ball stayed
agonisingly out of the net. The result gave the Roar a 3-match winning
streak for the first time in the A-League's history.
Queensland Roar 1 (Kruse 10) Melbourne Victory 0.
Yellow Cards : Roar -
H Seo 40, A Packer 50, S McLaren 55, B Griffin 76)
Victory - D Vasilevski 53.

For much of the day, Wellington Phoenix looked set to record their
second victory over Sydney FC this season. Sydney FC were slow off the
blocks, allowing the New Zealand side to dominate possession; and it came
as no surprise when a corner from Daniel found Ross Aloisi at close range,
who put the ball into the Sydney net.
Worse was to come shortly after the hour, when Sydney FC captain Tony
Popovic found himself ejected after his second yellow card.
Ticking into injury time, the Phoenix were still maintaining their 1-0 lead.
But for the competition newcomers, it then came horribly unstuck when
Steven Old brought Ufuk Talay down in the box. It was Old's second
yellow card, but worse than that it brought Talay to the spot; where he
calmly converted the penalty to give Sydney a draw they barely deserved.
Wellington Phoenix 1 (R Aloisi 29) Sydney FC 1 (U Talay 90pen).
Yellow Cards : Phoenix - S Old 61,90 , K Rees 76, V Coveny 78 Sydney
-
T Popovic 27,69. Red Cards : Phoenix - S Old 90 Sydney - T Popovic

Scoreless in the first half, the Adelaide v Newcastle match at Hindmarsh
Stadium sprung to life shortly after the hour when an athletic slide from
Joel Griffiths connected with the ball to hit the Adelaide net and give the
visitors the lead.
But the Reds were to equalise just a few minutes later in comical style,
when a header from Travis Dodd hit the right upright, rebounded to his
the left, before finally bouncing over the line.

By now the game had opened up, and Paul Agostino looked to have put the Reds in front a few
minutes later, but the offside flag was up to disallow the goal. 1-1 was how it remained, after both
sides had put on an entertaining second half.
Adelaide United 1 (T Dodd 76) Newcastle Jets 1 (J Griffiths 70).
Yellow Cards : Adelaide - Diego 34, R Cornthwaite 63, I Erdogan 90. Newcastle - A Griffiths 10, A
Durante 62.
Referee - M Breeze. Crowd - 10,256 at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Perth Glory had recorded their first win of the season last week, but their chances of extending their
winning streak to 2 were severely diminished by injuries and representative call-ups which left the
Glory severely undermanned.
In the end, top side Central Coast took the points; but the Glory lost no respect after battling all the
way. Greg Owens put the visitors in front with a long range strike after 12 minutes, but the Mariners
were unable to find any more scoring opportunities. Instead it was Perth who continued to attack,
and it was only a series of fine saves from Mariners' keeper Matthew Trott that ensured the Mariners
retained the lead. The result maintained the Mariners' 4-point lead on top of the table while Glory
remain on the bottom, but despite the loss the Glory would feel optimistic that better times are not
too far away.
Perth Glory 0  Central Coast Mariners 1 (G Owens 12).
Yellow Cards : Glory - J Harnwell 15, A Kovacevic 28, T Simpson 34. Mariners - M Jedniak 84,89.
Red Cards : Mariners - M Jedniak 89.
Referee - C Zetter. Crowd - 7,310 at Members Equity Stadium.
