Competition newcomers Gold Coast Blaze continue to surprise their critics as their dream run in the NBL continued. On Wednesday night, the Blaze's double-pronged offense of Crowe (34 points) and Harvey (29 points) was too good for the Adelaide 36ers, recording a 117-109 win. They then travelled to Wollongong and humiliated the financially embattled Hawks 115-82; condemning the Illawarra side to their 6th straight defeat. It was a round of upsets, none more so than at the Sydney Entertainment Centre when the Kings hosted Perth Wildcats. Everything appeared to be going to the form book when the Kings led 66-53 late in the third term. But the Wildcats rallied, a 12-0 run cutting the lead back and turning the momentum of the match. Another monumental upset occurred at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, where the struggling Slingers suddenly found some form to stun the prolific Brisbane Bullets and keep them out of the top 2. The Sydney Kings bounced back from their loss to Perth with a 100-92 win over Melbourne Tigers, while the Razorbacks were 31 points too good for Singapore. In a high-scoring shootout in Brisbane, the Bullets recorded a 120-113 win over Townsville, while the New Zealand Breakers were 107-104 winners over South Dragons. It was a weekend to forget for the Dragons, who then went down 125-96 to Cairns Taipans. In other results, Adelaide defeated the Razorbacks 125-118 in a high-scoring shootout, while Townsville Crocodiles brought the Perth Wildcats back to earth with a 97-93 win. |
