The round opened with a high-scoring shootout, with Gold Coast Blaze powering into the top 4 after an entertaining 127-116 win over South Dragons. Even a club record 37 points from Dragons' playing coach Shane Heal wasn't enough to get his team the points, as the Blaze was able to get through their defence to score at will. Jason Crowe led the way for the Blaze with 33 points. Wollongong Hawks snapped their 6-match losing streak with a hard-fought 93-72 win over Singapore in a lacklustre match at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre. Also ending a losing streak in a low-scoring slog was Melbourne Tigers, with an 86-79 comeback win over Perth Wildcats. Ladder leaders Sydney Kings extended their lead over the rest of the competition with another winning double, first over the NZ Breakers away on Thursday night and then back at home on the Saturday against Adelaide 36ers. Brisbane's offence, particularly Ebi Ere, were again dominant in the Bullets' 120-102 win over the Razorbacks. It was the start of a disappointing weekend for the West Sydney side, who again went down at Cairns Convention Centre to the Taipans to leave the Razorbacks languishing in 10th place and quickly falling out of finals contention. At home on Saturday night, Townsville Crocodiles were untroubled with a regulation 117-105 win over bottom side Singapore Slingers. |
