The clay courts may not always be to top seed Novak Djokovic's liking, but the Serb was untroubled in his second round clash with
Blaz Kavcic, not dropping a game in the first set on his way to a straight-sets win. It was a bit tougher for third seed Roger Federer,
as he dropped his third set in a tie-break against Adrian Ungur, but got through in four sets.
It was a good day for the mens' seeds, with all of them who were in action on day 4 going through to the third round. But it was far
from plain sailing for the women.
Local hope, eighth seed Marion Bartoli, was a shock exit from the tournament. A slow start cost her the first set against Croatia's
Petra Martic, and although she won the second set she never looked completely comfortable; and it was no surprise when an early
break of serve in the third set was enough to get Martic through and end Bartoli's tournament.
But there were no problems for top seed Victoria Azarenka, who dropped just two games in a dominant exhibition that took less than
an hour.
