A Good Friday blockbuster at the SFS saw Brisbane condemn the Roosters to their first loss of the new season. In a
see-sawing contest, David Stagg scored early before Braith Anasta and Anthony Tupou quickly replied for the Roosters.
But the game was turned on its head when Karmichael Hunt landed a high shot on Braith Anasta that saw the Rooster
playmaker depart, bleeding profusely; and although Anasta attempted to come back in the second half, it was short
lived before the persistent bleeding saw him leave again.
The Roosters led 14-8 at the half; but five minutes into the second half Tonie Carroll crossed to level the scores. And
on the hour, Darius Boyd chased a grubber downfield to score what would be the decisive try.

The Bulldogs and Souths had both been defeated in the opening round of 2008, so the stakes were high when the two
clubs clashed at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.
Early on, it was the Rabbitohs who made the front running. Ben Lowe and Eddie Paea burst through holes in the
Bulldog defence to give the Rabbitohs an early 12-0 lead; and the Bulldogs would not trouble the scorers until the final
minute of the first half, when Matt Utai made a break.
But in the first five minutes of the second half, Willie Tonga and Tim Winitana found the line, and against the run of play,
suddenly the Bulldogs were in front. From there, there would be no catching them. A field goal by Daniel Holdsworth
gave them a seven-point buffer, before Luke Patten found the line with ten minutes to go for the match-winner.

Canberra picked up two valuable points on the road on Saturday evening when the Raiders completed an uninspiring
20-16 result over a dismal Penrith side.
It took just one minute for the Raiders to get on the scoreboard, with William Zillman pulling off an intercept during the
opening set of six for the game and running 80 metres to score. And at the 10 minute mark Bronx Goodwin raced
through a yawning gap to score. Justin Carney converted both tries and added a penalty goal, and the Raiders looked
well set at 14-0 in as many minutes.
But the Panthers got back into the game at the half hour mark, with Rhys Wesser finding the line to score and a penalty
goal would follow shortly afterwards. It was 14-8 at the break, and a penalty goal to the Panthers early in the second
half game them a sniff. And on the hour mark, a 40-20 kick by Jarrod Sammut gave the Panthers field position, and
Brad Tighe capitalised to give the Panthers the lead.
But the lead would be short-lived, as just five minutes later Marshall Chalk strolled through some lax defence to restore
the advantage for the visitors. A 20-16 result was a welcome win for the Panthers, but this was never a game that
reached any great heights and the result said more about Penrith's disappointing form than anything positive about the
Raiders.
