Friday night at Parramatta Stadium turned out to be a thriller, with a constantly fluctuating match going beyond full-time
to golden point. At 22-22 with 5 minutes left on the clock, Jarrod Mullen gave the Knights the advantage with a drop
goal, but prop Nathan Cayless put in an amazing effort of his own to equalise the game. In the scramble before
full-time, Luke Birt and Cory Paterson both attempted field goals but were unsuccesful; so for the second week in a
row the Knights were taken to overtime. But during added time, it all came unstuck for the Knights when Richard
Fa'aoso lost possession of the football, which was snapped up by Luke Birt to boot home the winner for the Eels.

A massive crowd of over 50,000 was on hand on a damp evening in Brisbane, and the majority of them were to go
home happy after the Broncos demolished the hapless North Queensland 36-2. The Cowboys landed an early penalty
goal and led 2-0 after half an hour, but a 7 minute burst before the break in which Hannant, Marsh and Boyd all
crossed the line, was a body blow the Cowboys were unable to recover from. In the end, it was 6 unanswered tries, a
reflection of Brisbane's dominance; a result that leaves the Cowboys struggling at the bottom of the ladder winless so
far this season.

Melbourne were at their invincible best last season, losing only 3 games for the season. But already this season they
have lost 2 games, their second coming after a superb defensive effort from the Sydney Roosters at the SFS. It took
just 6 minutes for Shaun Kenny-Dowall to cross for the Roosters to give them an early break, but amazingly the Storm
were unable to open their scoring until the dying minutes of the game. By then, two penalty goals to Craig Fitzgibbon
had given the Roosters enough of a buffer to withstand the late Storm onslaught.

With Jason Nightingale twice crossing the line early, St George/Illawarra were looking good early and were holding a
14-6 lead. But, continuing to attack, the Dragons dropped the ball, allowing Terry Campese to replicate the deeds of
his illustrious uncle and run the length of the field to score. Suddenly the Raiders were back in the contest, trailing by
just 2 points at the break; and a second half double to Joel Monaghan give the Canberrans the advantage and an
unlikely top-8 ladder position.

Gold Coast returned to form, handing Cronulla their first defeat of the season with an 18-4 result at Robina on
Saturday night. The Sharks opened the scoring with a try to Simmons, leading 4-0 at the break, but the Titans played
inspired rugby league in the second half to wrest the advantage. Tries to Mat Rogers, Jordan Atkins and Brad Meyers,
along with the boot of Scott Prince, placed the advantage with the competition's newest team; and try as they might the
Sharks were unable to penetrate sufficiently to create another entry in the scorebook.

South Sydney's riches-to-rags tale continued on Sunday, when last year's surprise finallists crashed to their third
straight defeat at the hands of the struggling Penrith. The Rabbitohs were caught napping early, with Brad Tighe twice
running half the length of the field to score, and when Maurice Blair and Adam Woolnough had got into the act before
half-time, the Panthers had set up a 22-6 lead. The Rabbitohs played better in the second half, but by then the damage
was done and despite Souths adding some small degree of respectability late in the game the result was never in
doubt.

When Homebush co-tenants the Bulldogs and Wests Tigers clashed on Sunday, it was a close affair early; and few would have predicted the
second half blowout that was to come. First half tries to Beau Ryan and Dene Halatau for the Tigers were cancelled out by a double to Luke
Patten for the Bulldogs; with only the superior kicking of Brett Hodgson giving the Tigers a 12-10 lead at the break. But Hazem El Mazri was to
cross for the Bulldogs just minutes after the resumption, and from there the Tigers' resistance faded away, with a further 3 tries being run in to
give the Bulldogs an easy 32-12 win.

2007 grand finallists Manly returned to form in style, with a comprehensive 52-6 victory over New Zealand Warriors at Brookvale on Monday night.
It was scoreless for the first 15 minutes, but once Brett Stewart opened his 2008 account the floodgates opened and the hapless Warriors were
never in the contest. Hat tricks to Michael Robinson and Brett Stewart underlined the Sea Eagle dominance, and despite this being only their first
win for 2008, they find themselves with the second best for & against in the competition.
