When Newcastle hosted Melbourne late in the 2006/07 season the Jets
raced away with a comfortable win; and early in this match it looked like a
repeat was about to happen. Adam Griffiths was in the scoresheet only a
few minutes after the game, and when Stuart Musialik went for a
long-range bomb and converted; the Jets were holding a 2-0 lead.
But the reigning champions steadied in the second half, getting one back
just after the hour with a header by Archie Thompson. The Jets created
chances to put the game out of Melbourne's reach and were unable to
convert, which they would pay dearly for when substitute Adrian Caceres
slotted home the equaliser shortly before full-time.

An encouraging crowd of over 12,000 was on hand in Wellington when the
Phoenix took on Adelaide United, and they were to witness an entertaining
match. After a scoreless first half, Felipe put the Phoenix in front when the
Brazilian positioned himself brilliantly for the header. But just minutes later,
Diego equalised and when Djite found himself unmarked in the box to slot
another goal through the Reds found themselves in front. But with just 3
minutes left on the clock, Shane Smeltz's header would tie up the scores, a
fair result after an evenly-split second half.

After a disappointing start to the season, Sydney FC took the first step to
turning their fortunes around with a 1-0 win on the road against
Queensland Roar. The Roar had the better of the first half but were unable
to score, and a similar pattern unfolded early in the second. But on 69
minutes, a cross from Corica found Patrick unmarked for the Brazilian to
convert from point blank range and give Sydney FC a shock 1-0 lead.
Stung into action, the Roar continued to press for an equaliser, but a
succession of fine saves from Sydney keeper Clint Bolton would deny them.

Ladder leaders Central Coast were expected to have little trouble in disposing of struggling Perth
Glory when the two sides met at Central Coast Stadium. But the Glory proved a hard side to crack,
and although struggling for options in attack had a rock-solid defence that the Mariners, without
striker Nick Mrdja, had trouble penetrating. For much of the second half it was looking set for
another scoreless draw, but on 80 minutes Sasho Petrovski finally broke the deadlock to give the
home side another victory and send the unlucky Glory to the bottom of the ladder.
