Early in the third set, Marcos Bagdhatis looked down for the count. Having lost a second set
tiebreak after squandering 6 set points, being down 2 sets and down a break in the third and
having treatment on an injured shoulder, he looked gone. But somehow the popular Cypriot
regrouped to win 5 games in a row and the third set. The fourth would come as well from a
tiebreak. Would there be a miracle comeback win?
In the end, the answer was no as 4th seed Novak Djokovic steadied to retain control of the
match. But, although he was unable to salvage the win, Baghdatis had shown great courage
to make the fight last the distance when he could so easily have been knocked out.
Djokovic has been joined in the semis by Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Richard Gasquet -
Gasquet causing the upset with a marathon 5-set win over Andy Roddick, the 5th set going to
the Frenchman 8-6.
In the womens' draw, a major semi-final boilover took place when France's Marion Bartoli
upset top seed Justine Henin. It didn't look likely early, with Henin taking the first set 6-1, but
