Sabine Lisicki (GER) - Through to Semi Final

Rain affected play on the outside courts, but the retractable roof installed just a few years ago ensured play would go on in
Centre Court and that all the womens singles quarter finals would go ahead.
The top three seeds had already been eliminated, leaving Victoria Azarenka as the highest-ranked player remaining in the
draw. And the Belarusian had little difficulty in ending the unseeded Austrian Tamira Paszek's tourmament, taking out a
straight-sets win. And it was even easier for former number one Maria Sharapova, dropping only two games in her
one-sided match against Dominika Cibulkova.
Petra Kvitova was given a harder time by 32nd Tsvetana Pironkova. Kvitova took out the first set easily enough, but found the
Bulgarian a tougher opponent in the second set. Pironkova had already claimed the scalp of Vera Zvonareva in this year's
Championships, and threatened to pull off another boilover as she took the second set in a tie-break. But the third set saw
the eighth seed lift, twice breaking to ensure her progression to the semi finals.
And a major upset saw the unseeded German Sabine Lisicki eliminated 9th seed Marion Bartoli. Despite Bartoli taking the
second set in a tie-breaker, she struggled to get her game going, and the enthusiastic young German was able to
capitalise with a series of strong shots and a big serve to make her first Grand Slam semi final.
