It was another epic three-set encounter for Australia's Sam Stosur, as she took on Maria Kirilenko in the round of 16. The
first set went to Stosur easily enough, but she was then drawn into a second set, well over an hour before the Russian got
up in a tie-breaker. And so the match went into a deciding set; with Stosur pulling away to take the match and set up a
quarter finals appearance.
No such dramas for the prominent mens seeds. Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and David Ferrer were untroubled as they
breezed through with straight-sets wins. But 12th seed Gilles Simon was given a harder time, as he dropped the first set
against Juan Martin Del Potro and was down a break in the second, before breaking back to force a tie-break and then
going on to take the match in four sets.
Vera Zvonareva had a straight-sets win over Sabine Lisicki. But 13th seed Shuai Peng went down to Italian 26th seed Flavia
Pennetta.
