THE CHAMPIONSHIPS, WIMBLEDON Day 13 review - Sunday 8th July 2007.

Bjorn Borg held the record for the most Wimbledon titles in a row, with 5 victories from
1976-1980 , but his record has been equalled by Swiss champion Roger Federer.
Federer took out the singles title against Rafael Nadal, but the Spanish wiz-kid pushed
Federer to 5 sets.
It was tight early, with the first set going to a tie-break. Federer was forced to defend 5 set
points before taking the tie-breaker, and was saved by a challenge when hawkeye agreed
the ball just touched the line. Nadal took the second after breaking Federer, and the third
also went to a tie-break with the defending champion taking the set. But it could so easily
have slipped away in the fourth, when after Nadal took a medical time-out he rallied to
twice break Federer and take the set 6-2. But the tables were turned again in the last, with
Federer rallying to twice break the Spaniard and ensure he won The Championships; as
he has every year since 2003.
And so The Championships is over for another year. Again, Roger Federer rewrote the
record books with another dominant display to take another title. Venus Williams bounced
back from injuries and disappointments of recent years to again etch her name in history.
It was a fortnight of drama, close finishes, plenty of rain and reputations made and
broken. As the players go their separate ways, looking ahead to the US Open, memories
will remain of a remarkable fortnight of tennis; with Roger Federer again memorable for
his winning ways.
