Roger Federer's hopes of regaining his Wimbledon crown looked to be well on track during his round 2
clash with Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. The Swiss master looked untroubled all match as he cruised to a
straight-sets victory. Also going through on centre court was Serena Williams, the dual former captain
having little difficulty in dispatching the only Aussie in action, Jarmila Groth.
In another good day for the seeds, all of the top 16 seeds in action in the mens' draw made their way
through to the third round. Fernando Verdasco had to work hard for his win, going through 4 marathon
sets. Tommy Robredo was in all sorts of trouble, dropping the first 2 sets against Stefan Koubek and
being down a match point during the 4th set tiebreak before progressing through.
Womens' 16th seed Jie Zheng departed, the highest-ranked woman to go out so far, being defeated by
Daniela Hantuchova. But all the higher-ranked seeds in action went through, none of them dropping a set.
And after tournament organisers had talked about the need to clamp down on grunters, tough action
wasn't necessary after Maria Sharapova and Michelle Larcher de Brito both exited in the second round.
