World number 1 and top seed Roger Federer completed his third grand slam title for 2007
when he overcame third seed Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the final.
But although it was a straight-sets victory, Federer didn't have everything go his way. Djokovic
broke Federer's serve to go 6-5 ahead in the first set, and then held three set points while
serving for the set; and even after being broken back the young Serb had another set point
during the tie-break. But it wasn't to be, with the Swiss champion holding his nerve to take out
the set.
The second set was similar. Djokovic served for the second set, and after holding another set
point thought he had played a winner. But the line call went against him and the challenge was
unsuccessful, giving Federer an opportunity to get back into the contest. And once given an
opportunity, Federer made no mistake; and from there Federer's fourth straight US Open title
was never in doubt.
